Food was so good. Took the recommendation of the cashier and I donβt even know what I preferred but it was stupid good. Tons of really good flavor that came together perfectly. You order at the counter and take a number to the table and the food comes out pretty quick. We also met the owner Margarita and she was so lovely and kind. Sheβs got a fantastic operation going here. Service from all the workers was very quick and they were all so helpful. Will definitely be coming back.
Overview
Walking into Basta Pasteria feels like that moment when you realize youβve found your new go-to spot without even trying. Tucked into 6157 S State St, Murray, UT 84107, United States, this neighborhood Italian diner has the kind of relaxed confidence that comes from doing simple things really well. Iβve eaten here more times than I can count, sometimes grabbing a quick lunch, other times settling in for a long dinner, and the experience stays remarkably consistent in the best way.
The menu leans heavily into fresh pasta, house-made sauces, and Italian comfort food that doesnβt pretend to be something itβs not. One of the first things I noticed was how often youβll see staff prepping ingredients in real time. Fresh herbs, simmering sauces, and pasta cooked to that just-right al dente texture are not accidents. According to data from the National Restaurant Association, restaurants that focus on scratch cooking and transparent preparation tend to score higher in customer satisfaction, and this place is a clear example of that principle in action. You taste the difference immediately.
On my first visit, I ordered the classic spaghetti with marinara, expecting something straightforward. What arrived was layered, balanced, and deeply comforting. The acidity of the tomatoes was mellowed by slow cooking, and the pasta held the sauce instead of drowning in it. Since then, Iβve worked my way through much of the menu, including creamy Alfredo dishes, baked pastas, and rotating specials that usually feature seasonal ingredients. The kitchenβs method is refreshingly old-school: cook in small batches, adjust seasoning constantly, and serve immediately. That approach aligns with recommendations from culinary institutes that emphasize temperature control and timing as critical to pasta quality.
Reviews from locals often mention portion size, and theyβre not exaggerating. Plates come out generous without crossing into wasteful, which matters more than people think. The USDA has noted that balanced portioning reduces food waste while improving perceived value, and Basta Pasteria seems to have figured out that sweet spot. You leave full, not overwhelmed.
What also stands out is how approachable the place feels. This isnβt a white-tablecloth destination; itβs a diner-style Italian restaurant where families, students, and regulars mix easily. Iβve overheard conversations between staff and repeat guests about favorite orders and off-menu tweaks, which speaks to trust built over time. Trust is earned in small ways, like honoring dietary requests or explaining how a dish is prepared without sounding rehearsed.
The location in Murray makes it convenient for both locals and anyone passing through the area. Parking is easy, service is quick without being rushed, and takeout orders are handled with the same care as dine-in meals. That consistency matters. A study published by Cornell Universityβs School of Hotel Administration highlights that consistency across service formats is one of the strongest predictors of positive restaurant reviews.
There are a few limitations worth noting. The menu doesnβt change dramatically, so diners looking for constant novelty might find it familiar after several visits. That said, familiarity is often the point. When I want something reliable, comforting, and genuinely satisfying, I know exactly where to go. The steady stream of positive reviews reflects that same sentiment from the community, reinforcing why this spot has earned its reputation as a dependable Italian favorite in Murray.

Really great experience. Food is great, service was fast. The staff were caring and very nice and gave excellent recommendations on what to get on my first visit. Amazing pasta for sure, and for an unbeatable price really. I loved the ambiance and music????????I felt like I left Utah for a minute I havenβt heard these melodies outside of Europe. Great chill date night spot.
Did not realize this is a chain, which I'm not a fan, but I've never heard of/they don't have in my area. VERY cutely decorated! The line was OUT the door (which is impressive). The Staff was VERY kind and VERY accommodating. The place is SMALLLLL and the parking is in the mall parking lot - so can be tough to find something let alone close. The food was NOT bad at all. I enjoyed it for days & days (THANK YOU). Would recommend but it's not going to be gourmet Italian - but it's VERY good!!
Wow!!! Real pizza and FLAVOR!! we also got gluten free noodles with the pink sauce (creamy tomatoe) so so good. The flour in the pizza is Italian and better for gluten intolerance. Conley was patient with us while we understood the menu and answered our questions. We will be back!! Sorry for the half eaten food pics, but it was tasty!
Delicious! The food was excellent and the service was wonderful! Plenty of delicious choices to keep everyone happy. My favorite was the caprese salad. So fresh! Thanks to our server Connolly? He made sure we had everything we needed!
This fast casual italian restaurant was definitely worth the stop! High quality food, kind and friendly service, great atmosphere. I really enjoyed my time there! The servings are worth the price! I got the cacio and pepe while my sister got a gnocchi dish both were delicious. A highlight for us was the delicious chicken we added. Perfectly crispy and seasoned well. The food got to us fast and hot. The housemade noodles were perfect!
My wife and I loved our experience at BASTA! A key warning is that the portions were large. So with the price is was a great value. But we had to take food home. We ordered Caesar and Panzanella insalata. Both were delicious, especially the broad flavors of the panzanella. The foccaccia and oil was soft and great tasting. My wife had the Saturday special - the Chicken Parmesan. I had the Rigatoni Gambaroni Pesto. One of the few seafood dishes on the menu. Great sauce, and a lot on it. The Chicken Parm was very large. The pasta sauce was great flavored. While you order at the register, the sit down experience afterwards is fantastic with exceptional care from the staff. Well worth a return visit!
Really great food AND really great service. They give you complimentary bread w/ oil & vinegar and waters at the table. House made pasta daily! & you can tell & itβs the real deal!
